Given the state of the climate around the globe, this class has begun to center itself heavily around the idea of climate change, and rightfully so. It is an issue we should all be deathly afraid of. If it does not effect you, it could effect your kids or their children.
One of the projects that we were required to do was an ELA, experiential learning activity, that meant going outside and doing something related to the environment. Since climate change is such a big issue to me, I chose to participate in a beach cleanup. A group of students and I went to the beach and cleaned up all the trash we could find, and there was certainly plenty of it.
After we did that, I went home to reflect on the activity and to say it was rewarding is an understatement. To see all the issues unfolding related to climate change but to be unable to do anything about them certainly makes you feel hopeless, but not that day. I felt good about myself and extremely accomplished, as I was able to make a difference.
I hope to one day be able to inspire a change in younger people as well. This is an issue that we all need to take seriously, wherever you are, whatever you believe it, it will effect you.
