Literacy Narrative Sketch 3

In the 7th Grade, we had been assigned a creative writing assignment towards the end of the year. Since it was the end of the year, there were nearly no parameters and you could write about whatever you wanted really. In the mind of 7th grade me, I wrote about what I thought was the coolest thing in the world at the moment, zombies. This could also be blamed on how big AMC’s The Walking Dead was at the time. I also know that many other kids wrote about the same thing, albeit with much stranger twists, such as zombie chicken. Regardless, throughout the process of writing my story, I knew that it was good. I can’t really explain why I knew for a fact that this piece of writing was so good, but I just knew that I had something special. I had never really been that confident about my writing up until then.

In the dimly lit classroom that we were writing in, all I could hear was the clicking of the keyboard as other students hammered away at their story. This did little to distract me, as I was so incredibly eager to show off my half finished story, not only because I thought it was that good, but a because I wanted to show off how good of a writer I was to the rest of my class.

Soon enough, we were allowed to share, so I called over my friends Sean and Jackson to come look at my story. They read what little part was done, and they were amazed. They practically shouted out how good mine was, and soon enough the rest of the class wanted to see, including the teacher.

This simple moment in the eyes and mind of 7th grade me did a lot to boost my confidence about writing. I had never been truly confident about what I wrote about until now. This also showed me that I was able to use my mind to create something truly unique and that I was proud of. It also showed me, that, despite what I thought about it, English class wasn’t always a chore, and was something I could actually enjoy.
